Where to Stay for Curieuse

No one sleeps on Curieuse but the rangers and the tortoises. Here is where to stay on Praslin and La Digue instead.

Curieuse is a national park with no accommodation, so every visitor stays on a neighbouring island. For the shortest boat ride, base yourself at Côte d’Or (Anse Volbert) on Praslin’s north-east coast, directly across the bay from St Pierre and Curieuse. Many boat trips leave from this beach or pick up from hotels here.

Elsewhere on Praslin, Grand Anse on the west coast is handy for the airport and quieter, while the north-west around Anse Lazio has the grandest resort. Many visitors split their stay with a few nights on La Digue, fifteen minutes away by ferry. Wherever you stay on Praslin, most Curieuse operators can collect you; from La Digue you need a catamaran trip or the ferry to Praslin first. Plan the rest of the trip with our itineraries and getting-there guide.

What it costs

The Seychelles are not a cheap destination, and Praslin and La Digue are no exception. As a rough guide for a double room per night:

LevelRough nightly rangeWhat you get
Budget roughly €80–150 Family-run guesthouses and self-catering apartments, often with breakfast; garden rather than sea views.
Mid-range roughly €150–350 Small beach hotels and resorts with a pool and restaurant, some rooms on the sand.
Upscale roughly €350 and well beyond Large resorts and boutique hotels with private beaches, spas and fine dining.

These are broad budgeting estimates, not quotes. Prices vary sharply by season and room, and the Seychelles charge a per-night tourism levy on top of the room rate, so compare total prices.

When to book

  • Christmas, New Year and Easter: the most expensive and fully booked weeks of the year. Book several months ahead, especially on La Digue, where the number of rooms is small.
  • European summer holidays (July–August): busy, particularly with families. Book well ahead for beachfront rooms at Côte d’Or.
  • April–May and October–November: the calm, clear months between the monsoons are popular with divers and snorkellers; book a few weeks ahead.
  • Rest of the year: availability is usually good, but small guesthouses can still fill — and a flexible rate is worth having in case your ferry or flight changes.

Choose the logistics first: how far you are from the Curieuse boats, the ferry and the beaches you care about.

Côte d’Or & Anse Volbert, Praslin

Côte d’Or & Anse Volbert, Praslin

Grand Anse & the west coast, Praslin

Grand Anse & the west coast, Praslin

La Digue

La Digue

Best for: slow travel, cyclists, Anse Source d’Argent at sunrise

Fifteen minutes from Praslin by ferry, with bicycles instead of cars and dozens of family-run guesthouses and villas around La Passe. A lovely base for two or three nights; for Curieuse, join a catamaran trip from La Digue or take the ferry to Praslin. See La Digue.

Practical notes

  • Check how you will get to the boat. If your hotel is not at Côte d’Or, confirm that your Curieuse trip includes pickup from it.
  • Ferry and flight times matter. The last ferries and flights leave in the late afternoon. On your last day, plan a short morning rather than a Curieuse trip. See getting here.
  • Self-catering saves money. Restaurants are expensive. Many guesthouses have kitchens; Praslin’s small supermarkets stock basics.
  • Breakfast and dinner. Half board is common at resorts and worth considering where restaurants are far away.
  • Cash and cards. Larger hotels take cards; small guesthouses may prefer cash in euros or rupees. ATMs are at Grand Anse and Baie Sainte Anne on Praslin and La Passe on La Digue.
  • Tourism levy. Expect a per-person, per-night sustainability levy, usually paid at the property.
Plan your Curieuse day

The best boats fill up. Reserve your day early.

The top-rated Curieuse trips run with limited places, and in high season and school holidays the best dates go first. Compare and reserve in a couple of taps — most trips can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours ahead.

Where to stay: FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Are there hotels on Curieuse Island?

No. Curieuse is a national park and has no accommodation. Visitors stay on Praslin or La Digue and come over by boat for the day.

What is the best area to stay for Curieuse?

Côte d’Or (Anse Volbert) on Praslin. It faces St Pierre and Curieuse across the bay, many boat trips leave from the beach, and it has the widest choice of hotels and restaurants.

Can I visit Curieuse if I stay on La Digue?

Yes. Some catamaran trips from La Digue include Curieuse, or you can take the 15-minute ferry to Praslin and join a trip there — check that the timings work.

How much does a hotel on Praslin cost?

Very roughly €80–150 a night for a guesthouse double, €150–350 for a mid-range beach hotel and from about €350 for upscale resorts, plus the tourism levy. Prices vary a lot by season.

Do I need a car on Praslin?

Not if you stay at Côte d’Or: buses, taxis and boat-trip pickups cover most needs. A car is useful if you stay in the north-west or want to explore many beaches.

Should I split my stay between Praslin and La Digue?

If you have five nights or more, it works well: Praslin for Curieuse, the Vallée de Mai and Anse Lazio, then La Digue for its beaches and slower pace.
