Turquoise water over granite rocks along the white sand of Anse Lazio, Praslin

Anse Lazio

Praslin’s most celebrated beach

Anse Lazio, at the north-western tip of Praslin, is the beach that ends up on the postcards — and for once the reality lives up to them. A long arc of fine, pale sand runs between two headlands of rounded granite boulders, backed by takamaka and palm trees, and the water shades from clear to turquoise to deep blue.

It is the natural afternoon after a morning on Curieuse, and it appears on many lists of the world’s finest beaches. Popularity has its price: it is busier than most Seychelles beaches in the middle of the day, so come early or late for the quieter, more magical version.

What to see and do: Anse Lazio

Swim

The bay is usually calm and good for swimming, though waves and currents can pick up when the wind blows from the north-west, roughly December to March. There are no lifeguards; if the sea looks rough, stay in your depth.

Snorkel around the rocks

The granite at both ends of the beach shelters fish and some coral. Go in from the sand and stay close to the rocks.

Eat with a view

A couple of restaurants sit just behind the beach, serving Creole dishes and grilled fish. They can be busy at lunchtime.
